The Ultimate 4-Week Packing Checklist

By Service Rank USA Team

Procrastination is the enemy of a smooth move. Trying to pack an entire house in a weekend leads to broken items and extreme stress. Follow this staggered timeline to keep the chaos under control.

4 Weeks Out: The Purge

Do not pay to move trash. Go through every room and create three piles: Keep, Donate, and Toss. Start gathering boxes and packing supplies now. Pack non-essential items like off-season clothes, books, and decorations.

3 Weeks Out: The Fragiles

Start packing the delicate items that you don't use daily. China, crystal, and collectibles take the most time to wrap properly. Use plenty of bubble wrap and ensure no empty space is left in the boxes.

2 Weeks Out: The Utilities

This isn't just about boxes. Call your utility companies (gas, electric, internet) to schedule disconnection at your old place and connection at your new one. Start packing up most of the kitchen, leaving only essential plates and cutlery.

1 Week Out: The Essentials Box

Pack a "First Night" box or suitcase for each family member. This should include: toiletries, a change of clothes, phone chargers, medications, and basic cleaning supplies. This box travels with you in your car, not on the moving truck.

Moving Day

Do a final walkthrough. Check the attic, basement, and deep closets. Strip the beds. Keep your valuables and important documents (passports, leases) in your personal vehicle.
